Historically Brown Edge was served by Endon (and before that Leek) and Norton Parishes depending on what side of the Saxon border you lived.
The first place of worship for Brown Edgers appears to be the Wesleyan Chapel in Sandy Lane. followed by Hugh Bourne’s own Primitive Methodist Chapel at Hill Top. St Anne’s Church was built as a response to the Methodism and the growing population of Brown Edge
